Spirits
How to create your Alphas & Betas
⇑
Preamble
Before we go into the crafting tables, let me explain a bit.
What you need before starting is the according Beta Spirit, which is loot in most cases at
The Alien Threat a.k.a. Mitaar Hero,
The Xan a.k.a. 12-man-instance and
Ground Chief Vortexx.
In the tables the lowest quality spirit is mentioned, which is reported to work for creating Alpha spirits. A
list of these lowest spirits was created by
Solstiare at the Shade Profession Boards at the official AO Forums - thank you very much for allowing to use your list, Solstiare!
Upgrading and Combining Alphas
Lower-quality base spirits initially create QL 250 Alpha Spirits. You can "bump" these toward QL 300 by adding more of the same Beta Spirits used in the Alpha's original creation process. Typically, a QL 250 Alpha requires 3 to 4 Beta Spirits injected into it to reach QL 300. Using QL 300 regular spirits as your base during the initial crafting will significantly reduce the number of Beta injections required—often reaching QL 300 immediately.
Once you have created different Alphas for the same location (e.g., Head), you can combine them into a single, superior Alpha Spirit. This "Combined Alpha" retains the skill enhancements of both original spirits along with additional bonuses.
CRITICAL NOTE: When combining two Alphas, the
Target and
Source QLs are vital. The resulting Combined Alpha will take the QL of the
Target item. For example, using a QL 300 Source spirit into a QL 250 Target spirit will result in a QL 250 Combined Alpha. Always ensure your Target spirit is the higher QL of the two to avoid losing progress. It would be best to "bump" alphas when the combined alpha is completed to not waste beta injections.
Note: The Feet location is currently an exception and does not have a combined upgrade.
It has been confirmed that these combined Alpha Spirits can still be increased in quality level after the merge by adding one of the Beta Spirits used in their base components. (Thank you for the info, Keex!)
Disclaimer
For figuring out the crafting steps I looked at the Alphas and evaluated which sources should be used to create it. This is a way with possible mistakes, so there is no guarantee as long as I don't get confirmation feedback from the Shade community. Please use the Tradeskill window to see the result before crafting. We would highly appreciate your feedback on mistakes and confirmations.
Many tradeskills are confirmed, but not all. Please keep using the tradeskill window to check the result before crafting!
Where to find those notorious Beta Spirits
The following list was published by Tabnstab at the official
AO Shade Boards and kindly allowed to add to this guide. Thank you Tabnstab!
Gladly (or not) the drop locations for the Beta Spirits are pretty densed up to one location for a certain slot Spirit. Hope the list helps you on finding what you look for.
Bottom note to this compilation: Missing Ear and Leg Beta Spirits are reported by mr_road to be available at the
The Xan aka. 12-man-instance. Thank you for this addition :)
